The Signal

A great genre bending film by director William Eubank, editor Brian Berdan, & sound designer Ben Burtt.   This film played at sundance 2014 before going national release with Focus Features.  I had a blast being a sound editor and the Re-Recording Mixer on this film.

Lost Town

This fabulous film recants the story of a beautiful & unique all Jewish town that existed western Russia in the early 1900’s called Trochenbrod.   It was destroyed along with most of it’s inhabitants during World War II at the hands of the Nazi Regime.  I’m extremely proud to have worked on this film and can’t wait to see what comes next from it’s directors Jeremy Goldscheider and Richard Goldgewicht,

ALMOST

ALMOST is a lovely short film I recently edited and mixed with lots of great help from the Skysound foley crew. A great piece about about that innocent transitional time in a child’s life. I really enjoy independent pieces like this and being part of them. This film is on its way to the LA Shorts Film Fest possibly Sundance and other great festivals.

The Simpsons Movie

This is a snippet from The Simpsons Movie for which I cut some sound effects. I worked on this film as a sound editor and an assistant sound editor for a period of time. It was an extremely busy film to work on! The producers and writers made lots changes throughout the course of making this film. Often major changes came down while mixing, which is rare for a film. That made for an extremely busy time on the 2 mix stages while I was working on the show.

Many of the fantastic sound effects cut for this films’ soundtrack unfortunately never made it into the final mix. In this case an amazing team was hired and headed by sound designer and mixer Chris Scrabosio.

Automorphosis

Automorphosis is a fantastic film written and directed by Harrod Blank on which I was so happy to have been the sound editor on.  This project is Harrods’ second film on the topic of Art Cars and was 15 years in the making.  In 2009, I helped Harrod get his project out of the Media Xpress system that dated back to 1994 and into a ProTools rig for me to edit and premix on.  Good thing I had years of experience with that system when I was the studio manager and Studio 111 in the mid 90’s.  There were lots of technical hoops to jump through!  Harrod is now running an Art Car Museum in Arizona, I can’t wait to visit!  I highly recommend this film and the supporting book if you have any interest in the subject.

The Darwin Awards

The Darwin Awards, directed by Finn Taylor and based on the popular website of the same name.

On this film I worked as the  supervising assistant sound editor, the foley editor and I edited fx on a reel or two.  We had a very small crew of 4, not including the composer, David Kitay.  There are so many great stories to tell about my experiences on this film, from working closely with Chris Boyes and Frank Eulner, to recording ADR session with Joe Finnes while in London using an experimental internet based recording plugin, to recalling the amazing instruments David Kitay brought with him to Skywalker Ranch and introducing me to Cacoa nibs!
